DIY Disaster to the Perfect Carport Building – Plans Made All the Difference
By DavidCockle
“I would be a very rich man if I could get a refund for all of the mediocre Carport Building Plans that I have bought”
Does this sound familiar?
My love for woodwork and DIY projects started at a very young age. I was only 14 when i decided to make my mum a bookshelf for her mothers day gift. Being the ‘gung ho’ type I went straight down to the hardware store and spent all my pocket money on some wood planks, screws and some glue.
“how hard can this DIY Building thing be”?
The answer to this quesiton was – VERY! After 3 weeks of hammering, cursing and sore fingers I decided to get my mum some flowers and give up on my home made bookshelf. Luckily this wasn’t to be the end of my woodworking career.
A few months down the track my grandad was remaking his steel carport and he asked me if I wanted to give him a hand, my decision was made very easy when he offered me $5 a day as an incentive. The next two weekends were spent building his garage carport and my love for woodwork, garage building and DIY projects began (not too mention the $20 I earned).
Building a garage can be hard enough at the best of times but it so frustrating when you spend your hard earned money on a set of carport plans that don’t even work. So much for saving you money – more like a complete waste of money. My grandad taught me a lot during those four days but the most important thing that he showed me was to not be afraid to ask for help. Even though I thought he was the best builder in the world, even he used some Carport Building Plans and followed them everystep of the way.
Thanks to my grandad I am now a professional builder. I work outside everyday and love every minute of it. My other love is helping other people learn how to complete thier own projects including
I wish you all the best with your building project and hope that my story can help inspire you to get outside and start building. Oh and I almost forgot to tell you – After building the carport with grandad I decided to have another go at that bookshelf for mum. Next mothers day she was the happiest mum in the world – you know what they say, “good things come to those who wait”.
diy carport, shed building or literally anything. The most important thing is that you get our there and give it a go. Don’t be afraid to ask me some quesitons or get yourself a good set of plans – to this day I still follow plans on at least 80% of my projects.
